Senior All-Stars Help Launch Louisiana Soccer’s “Respect the Game” Initiative

Graduating players lead statewide effort promoting respect, inclusion, and sportsmanship in the game.

Louisiana Soccer has officially launched Respect the Game, a new initiative designed to reinforce the values that make soccer a sport where everyone belongs.

The initiative was introduced during the 2025 Senior All-Star Games, where graduating seniors helped lead the launch. Players selected a sticker representing the message, placed it on the Respect the Game board, and signed their names beside it — symbolizing their commitment to promoting respect for teammates, opponents, referees, and the diverse communities that make up the game.

Photos from the launch can be seen on Louisiana Soccer’s social media:

Respect the Game comes at a time when the soccer community is placing increased emphasis on maintaining a positive and inclusive culture throughout the sport. The initiative reinforces Louisiana Soccer’s belief that the game should remain a place where players of every background feel welcome and respected.

Louisiana Soccer President Sean Esker emphasized that soccer’s strength has always been its ability to bring people together.

“Soccer is the game for every kid. It’s played in every community, by players from every background. Respect the Game is about protecting that spirit and making sure every player who steps on the field knows they belong.”

Sporting Director Joan Oliva, who grew up in Spain where soccer culture is deeply rooted in communities, said the initiative carries special personal meaning.

“I grew up with football as part of daily life in Spain. It connects people, families, and cultures. Seeing Louisiana Soccer take this step is something very special for me. Respect for the game and for each other is what keeps the sport strong.”

The Senior All-Stars helped set the tone for the initiative, demonstrating leadership for the next generation of players across the state.

Louisiana Soccer plans to expand the initiative in the coming weeks, inviting clubs across the state to participate in the Respect the Game Coalition and help carry the message forward.

More information about how clubs can join the initiative will be announced soon. Check back here for updates.
