US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of playing and learning soccer to every boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability. TOPSoccer was formed "to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition."
LSA is committed to enabling the thousands of young athletes across Louisiana with disabilities to experience the game of soccer in a fun, festive, nurturing and safe environment. Because each TOPSoccer program is different and addresses a wide variety of needs of its participants, they are organized and run by local volunteers. LSA encourages each of its member organizations to create their own TOPSoccer program. LSA will provide whatever support each such local program made need including...
- Providing periodic training for TOPSoccer organizers, administrators and coaches.
- Providing support for informational literature, materials and resources.
- Provide a starting kit of equipment to help each program get underway.
TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year
Congratulations to Mackenzie Manuel of Mandeville, LA for being named the 2014 LSA TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year!
The Mandeville High School sophomore not only excels as a player, but also as an integral part of the Mandeville Soccer Club's TOPSoccer Program. Mackenzie is a force on her high school team, her club team and as a member of the Louisiana and Region III Olympic Development teams. She plays at an elite level and has been seen and recognized on the national soccer stage. What truly sets Mackenzie apart, however, is the great compassion and commitment she demonstrates while working and playing with her TOPSoccer players . LSA wants to thank Mackenzie for being such a meaningful example of how the selfless acts of a single person can change the lives of so many.
LSA President, Sean Esker, presents the TOPSoccer Buddy
of the Year Award to Mandeville's Mackenzie Manuel.
A special thanks to those clubs who sent representatives to the LSA TOPSoccer symposium held in the LSA offices in Baton Rouge in conjunction with our Mid-Year Meeting this January. LSA brought in Mike Singleton, Head Men's Soccer Coach and Psychology Professor at Washington and Lee University, as the keynote speaker for the symposium. In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, Mike has spent more than 20 years as a youth soccer coach, Director of Coaching and Executive Director of a state association. He has also been a TOPSoccer presenter for US Youth Soccer at numerous clinics and conventions across the country.
Should you have any questions about starting a TOPSoccer program in your area, please contact LSA Executive Director, Tucker Reynolds, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
