Promotion and relegation is used to determine placement of teams in the LCSL based entirely on their performance on the field. The Promotion/Relegation process for placement of teams at the conclusion of each spring season is as follows:
11U Divisions (Rising 12U)
Placement of teams will reflect LCSL results from the spring season. LSA will consider other factors raised in Letters of Intent, but the primary factor will be LCSL results. Challenge games will not apply to this age group.
12U Divisions (Rising 13U)
Using the final 12U league results from the spring season, teams will be placed into 8-team Divisions for the following season. Letter of Intent responses may also be considered. Challenge games will not apply to this age group.
13U-18U Division 1 & 2 Automatic Promotion and Relegation (Rising 14U-19U)
The lowest finishing team in Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2 and the highest finishing team in Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1 for the upcoming seasonal year.
13U-18U Division 1 & 2 Challenge Games (Rising 14U-19U)
The second-highest finishing team in Division 2 may challenge the second-lowest finishing team in Division 1 for a spot in Division 1 the following year. If the Division 2 team challenges, the teams will play a self-scheduled 2-game home and away promotion/relegation series.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Division 2 teams that qualify to challenge for promotion must send their formal challenge via email to the Division 1 team on or before Monday, April 10th. LCSL Manager, Jeff Schoonover (jeff@lsa-soccer.org) must be copied on all such emails.
- Division 1 teams must respond to the challenge on or before Friday, April 14th.
- All promotion and relegation games shall be completed prior to the commencement of the state tournaments applicable to both teams participating.
The Rules and Procedures for Challenge Games are set forth in LSA Policy 305.5
Promotion/Relegation at 14U Rising to 15U Level
The process may be different if the LCSL Division 1 at 14U has 8 teams and will be transitioning to a 6-team Division 1 at 15U. At the end of the season, the #7 and #8 teams in 14U Division 1 will be automatically relegated to Division 2. The 1st place team in Division 2 may challenge the 6th place team in Division 1 and the 2nd place team in Division 2 may challenge the 5th place team in Division 1 for promotion/relegation. Again these are 2-game home and away self-scheduled challenge series administered as in all other age groups.
