Classic team tryouts for the following seasonal year can only be conducted by member clubs after the conclusion of all of the Louisiana State Tournaments (e.g. The State Cup, Presidents Cup, Bob Abbott Cup) in which that age group shall compete.
11U through 13U Age Groups
Classic Team Tryouts shall commence on the Monday following the conclusion of the Bob Abbott Cup and shall conclude on the second Friday thereafter at 12:00 Noon.
14U through 19U Age Groups
Classic Team Tryouts shall commence for each specific age group on the Monday following the conclusion of the LSA State Cup for that age group and shall conclude on the second Friday thereafter at 12:00 Noon.
COVID-19 Modified Tryout Process
LSA shall continue the modified process adopted in 2020 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the devastating effects of the pandemic seem to be waning, they have not disappeared. Further, LSA Clubs supported the modified tryout process as it helped clubs, players and their families plan earlier for the following seasonal year. LSA shall use the same tryout process in the Spring of 2021.
Pre-Registration for Tryouts
LSA encourages each Club to adopt a pre-registration procedure for their tryouts. Pre-registration requires players to register for tryouts rather than simply appearing for them. Pre-registration may be required by a Club in order to attend tryouts. The purpose of this procedure is to help Clubs effectively plan for each tryout session. If players simply show up for tryouts, Clubs may not have sufficient staffing or equipment. Pre-registration also avoids long lines at registration tables where social distancing will be difficult. Please be aware that a Club may REQUIRE pre-registration for tryouts.
Early Club Registration
LSA is also encouraging Clubs to establish an early registration procedure that allows returning players to register for 2021-22 with their existing Club at any time prior to the Tryout Period. This may avoid the need for a player or group of players to attend tryouts altogether.
Early registration may require a deposit and is binding upon the player. If a player registers with their existing club early, the expectation must be that they are not considering a move to a different Club. Should a player register early with their existing club and thereafter choose to go to another club, the Transfer policy will be enforce.
Early registration is not a guaranty that the player be accepted to the Club nor be placed on any specific team.
If the Club receives an early registration from a player who the Club will not be accepting for whatever reason (e.g. disbanding the team at the player’s age group), the Club must notify the player of its decision immediately and return any deposit made to give the player the opportunity to try out for a different Club.
Even if a Club adopts the early registration procedure, they may require all players to attend tryouts.
There is no requirement that a Club adopt this early registration procedure. However, Clubs that did adopt this procedure reported that it helped with the administration of teams. A Club may decide that each player must undergo some element of a tryout process. This early registration procedure is optional.
Limitations on Tryouts
Assigning players to a recreational team on the basis of talent by the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting or any like process is not permitted. All teams registering in age groups 10U and younger must play at the Recreational level. Clubs are prohibited from advertising and/or conducting tryouts in order to form teams in age groups 10U and younger. Any type of tryout process is restricted to teams which will be playing in the LCSL.
No club may not contact, solicit, recruit or extend an invitation to any player during the Tryout Period. At the conclusion of each Tryout Period the Invitation Period shall begin. It is during the Invitation Period that clubs may contact players and extend them an offer to play for one of their teams.
